Norsk Luftambulanse to deploy AgustaWestland’s AW169 for emergency medical services

Norwegian air ambulance helicopter service Norsk Luftambulanse is buying one AgustaWestland twin-engined AW169 helicopter to carry out emergency medical services (EMS).

Featuring advanced avionic systems that allow night and low visibility operations, the new helicopter can be deployed for both primary and secondary EMS missions.

The avionic suite of AW169 features a complete digital NVG compatible cockpit with three 8" x 10" large area displays and a 4-axis digital automatic flight control system with dual flight management system.

Complying with satellite-based navigation, communication and surveillance requirements, the avionics suite can execute satellite-based IFR localiser performance with vertical guidance approaches to make the most of round-the-clock helicopter operation.

In addition to integrating mission equipment including a retractable Soft Terrain Ski system, the helicopter can house up to two stretchers, either longitudinally or transversally.

The helicopter’s cabin provides space to accommodate wheeled stretchers, while can be configured to fit in a complete suite of life support equipment.

Further, the helicopter can also be integrated with safety features such as terrain awareness warning systems and airborne collision avoidance systems.
