Spanish police patrol vessels to be powered by Rolls-Royce waterjets

Rolls-Royce has been awarded a contract from Spain to deliver waterjets to power two Spanish Police Guardia Civil 20m patrol boats, marking their debut on next generation of Guardia Civil boats.

The two vessels, to be built by Astilleros Gondan Shipyard, are aimed at carrying out missions in challenging conditions of strong winds and currents in demanding situation.

Rolls-Royce Spain general sales manager Jose Losada said: "Rolls-Royce waterjet technology offers a combination of speed, efficiency and excellent manoeuvrability for these vessels, which will regularly operate in challenging sea conditions.

"These are essential factors for coast guards and navies around the world in addition to highly reliable equipment and a working service support network which we supply."

The vessel’s improved towing capability and acceleration are claimed to beef up the stainless steel series waterjets’ fuel efficiency, further trimming down servicing requirements, as well as completing assigned tasks during the lifetime of the vessel.

Astilleros Gondan builds several vessels that include tugs, fishing vessels and patrol boats and is also working on second Rolls-Royce design UT 776 for Simon Mokster.

Gondan GRP& Aluminum general manager Alvaro Garcia said: "Reliability and performance are of utmost importance in our industry and are how all vessels are measured, which is why we chose Rolls-Royce waterjet units."

Further, the vessels will be integrated with a complete package of Rolls-Royce compact control system.
