Exelis rolls out new CorvusEye airborne surveillance system

Exelis has launched a new CorvusEye 1500 wide area surveillance system that can capture colour video from multiple views over a large area.

Mainly developed for use in law enforcement, border surveillance, and first-responder fields, the new surveillance system integrates colour electro-optical sensor that can monitor day or night over 3km in circumference and allow decision-making via an embedded analytical framework CogniSense.

Exelis regional surveillance solutions director Danny Rajan said that CorvusEye can capture activity occurring simultaneously in multiple areas that might go unnoticed using traditional surveillance such as full-motion video.

"CorvusEye affords users a comprehensive view of an entire area, so they can piece together possible threats to border security, high-profile events, critical infrastructure and/or other trends of interest," Rajan said.

Offering about 10 different close-up area views at the same time with streaming footage, the 15in and 83lb system rapidly collects critical intelligence for investigations through archived footage.

It can also be used as an end-to-end system by integrating on manned and unmanned platforms and its ground station software facilitates live data streaming to mobile devices.

The CorvusEye system can also track movement that may be associated with potentially hazardous or illicit activity, in addition to other trends such as migratory or invasive wildlife behaviour.
