Cirque Energy and Northrop team up for deployable gasification unit

Cirque Energy and Northrop Grumman have signed an agreement for the development of a deployable gasification unit.

Earlier Cirque received a subcontract from Northrop for the development of conceptual deployable gasification unit (DGU), capable of converting byproducts or wastes generated at military installations, natural disaster locations, or commercial or industrial sites into electricity and recoverable heat.

The units utilise low temperature, starved air gasification technology coupled with conventional reciprocating engine technology.
Under the terms of the joint development agreement, Northrop and Cirque will continue technology development for the DGU towards commercialisation.

Northrop and Cirque will develop first working DGU prototype for testing and demonstration for military, government, and commercial customers while the DGU unit is scheduled to be completed during 2014.

Cirque Energy CEO Joseph Durant said Cirque Energy in partnership with Northrop will provide an unparalleled level of product development for implementation of small scale gasification and combined heat and power.

With input from Northrop Grumman, Cirque will also lead development, manufacturing, and testing of the initial demonstration DGU, as part of the accord.

Northrop Grumman Information Systems integrated platform solutions director Phil Coker said, "This development agreement greatly advances the Northrop Grumman mission of offering a solution that provides beneficial use and disposal of wastes, while achieving reduced fossil fuel dependence and lower energy costs."

Northrop will manufacture DGU’s for exclusive sale by Northrop Grumman and Cirque Energy following completion of successful demonstration.
