Russia receives two new Project 90600 harbour tugboats

Russia’s Baltic Fleet has received two new Project 90600 harbour tugboats, aimed to boost its naval capability.

Currently, Russia operates three tugboats and is expected to receive another boat by the end of 2013, according to RIA Novosti.

Designed for towing and berthing operations in harbour, roadsteads and coastal areas which comply with R3 navigation area, the 25.4m-long Project 90600 tug boats can also support fire fighting operations at floating and shore objects and oil and petroleum content products spill removal.

Additionally, the tugs will be used for refloating of vessels, transportation of cargoes as well as for ice breaking and erosion operations.

Capable of cruising at a speed of 12kt, the tugs have overall beam of 8.8m, hull height of 4.66m, draft of 4.2m and can accommodate a crew of eight.

Equipped with external firefighting system, the boats are integrated with standard equipment such as bow towing/anchor/mooring winch, stern towing winch, towing hook and deck crane.

Powered by 2x80kW diesel generators, the Project 90600 tugs also features radio equipment is provided in accordance with GMDSS requirements for A1 navigation area.

JSC Pella Shipyard (St. Petersburg)-built tug boats will be stationed in Leningrad and Baltiysk naval bases and a total of five Project 90600 tugboats have been developed for the Russian Navy in 2011-2012.
