Harris to deliver communication systems for Latin American Nation

Harris has been awarded a contract by an undisclosed nation in Latin America to provide tactical and land mobile radios as part of interoperable voice and data network for public safety.

Under the $15m contract, the company will deliver Falcon III RF-7800V a next-generation very-high frequency (VHF) and Falcon RF-5800H advanced high-frequency (HF) manpack tactical radios.

The company will also provide P5500 portable land mobile radios and accessories to enable interoperable communications between federal officials and armed forces of the country.

The country’s new wireless digital voice and data network will be integrated with Harris equipment for national security applications.

The radios will provide interoperable voice and data communications for federal officials and armed forces to assist protect strategic installations when combined with country’s Harris OpenSky mission-critical radio system.

Harris RF Communication International Business president Brendan O’Connell said that the company delivers products to meet converging defence and internal security missions needs.

"These new Harris tactical and land mobile radios will enhance the capabilities of this nation’s forces to coordinate their efforts to provide safety and security to its citizens," O’Connell added.

The RF-7800V radio has been designed to provide advanced mission-critical management and data capabilities to deployed personnel to support missions.

Capable of providing beyond-line-of-sight terrestrial communications, RF-5800H HF manpack radio features advanced encryption, enhanced frequency hopping and an internal GPS receiver.

Harris P5500 portable land mobile radios feature lightweight, compact, resilient package to support operations of public safety and mission-critical users.
