AS&E’s Z Portal system selected to protect critical infrastructure facility

American Science and Engineering (AS&E) has received a follow-on contract to supply its Z Portal cargo and vehicle screening system to protect a critical infrastructure facility.

Under the contract, the company will supply its Z Portal system that will be put into use by law enforcement officials to scan vehicles and trucks for explosive threats and contraband before entering a critical infrastructure facility.

AS&E’s president and CEO Anthony Fabiano said that the Z Portal system has been designed to meet law enforcement agency’s stringent detection requirements for explosive threats and contraband.

"The Z Portal system has a proven track record to protect critical infrastructure, military bases, and border crossings around the world — all while maximizing safety and throughput," Fabiano added.

The comprehensive screening system, Z Portal provides multi-view, drive-through screening for left, right, and top-down imaging of cars, vans, trucks, and their cargo.

Using patented Z Backscatter technology, the Z Portal system provides superior detection capability of explosives, drugs, stowaways, and other contraband.

The compact design enables the system for use in high-traffic locations with space constraints and a high-throughput requirement and is safe for drivers, operators, cargo, and the environment.

Available in two sizes one smaller size for passenger vehicles and other for large trucks, buses, and cargo vehicles, the relocatable screening system is being used by the US Department of Defense, US Customs and Border Protection, Abu Dhabi Customs, and Nato.
