AgustaWestland delivers fifth AW139 helicopter to Italian Police

AgustaWestland has successfully delivered fifth AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopter to the Italian Police.

The delivery forms part of a contract awarded in July 2012 to the company for the supply of eight AW139 helicopters to the Italian Police.

The Italian Police’s helicopters, designated UH-139C, will operate from bases in Southern Italy including Bari, Palermo and Reggio Calabria as well as from Pratica di Mare close to Rome.

Equipped with high definition latest generation FLIR, satellite communication system, searchlight, rescue hoist and a cabin mission console, the aircraft can support a range of missions including search and rescue as well as government/VVIP transport missions.

The AW139 helicopters will replace aging helicopter fleet for the Italian Police and will also be used to conduct disaster relief, command and control, law enforcement and homeland security, patrol and special operation missions.

The Italian Coast Guard, Guardia di Finanza (Customs and Border protection) and the Italian Air Force have also selected the AW139 to support a range of missions.

The company has received orders for over 750 units from almost 200 customers from more than 60 countries to perform border/coast guard duties, emergency medical services, fire fighting, offshore transport and passenger shuttle services.
