Epson, Geodetics partner for inertial navigation systems

Epson Electronics America (EEA) has signed an agreement with Geodetics for production of a new variant of the Geo-iNAV product.
Under the terms of the agreement, Geodetics will integrate its Geo-iNAV with Epson’s new G362 and G352 inertial measurement unit (IMU) modules.

The new system, Geo-iNAV Tactical, is offered in several configurations to support reliable and precise navigation for autonomous vehicles and payloads on manned vehicles, with a low size, weight and power (SWaP) profile.

Geodetics president and CEO Dr Lydia Bock said, "Epson has established a new benchmark for MEMS IMU performance, enabling Geodetics’ products to reach new applications and customers by delivering high performance for a significantly lower cost than competing devices."

The Geo-iNAV is a fully-integrated GPS-aided inertial navigation system designed to provide real-time, high-precision positioning and navigation for manned and unmanned air, sea and ground vehicles.

EEA IMU product line manager David Gaber said the new solution, Geo-iNAV Tactical, is a cost-effective, tactical-grade inertial navigation system (INS) in a compact package with no Export Administration Regulations (EAR) or International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) export control restrictions.

"Geodetics has the high-precision navigation expertise necessary to integrate IMU and GPS technologies, producing Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) that meet the performance requirements of very demanding applications," Gaber added.
