Evoqua’s ballast water treatment system receives USCG’s AMS acceptance

Evoqua Water Technologies’ SeaCURETM ballast water management system has received the US Coast Guard’s (USCG) alternate management system (AMS) acceptance for deployment at fresh, brackish and sea water.

The acceptance paves way for the vessel owners and operators to use the SeaCURE ballast water treatment system in US waters and in any trade lane across the world.

Based on proven, widely deployed Chloropac marine growth prevention system (MGPS) technology, the system rids the requirement for storing or handling chemicals aboard due to on site generation of sodium hypochlorite from the natural salinity in sea water.

SeaCURE product manager David Palmer said: "AMS acceptance of SeaCURE builds on the exceptional results gained during testing by the International Maritime Organization and BSH.

"With more than a half century experience of Electrocatalytic serving the marine industry and a growing list of regulators approving and accepting the operational results of SeaCURE technology, we are confident as we move forward with the USCG type approval process."

SeaCURE system can also be operated in MGPS mode when it is not being deployed for ballast water treatment, further trimming down costs linked to sea water cooling system anode replacement, in addition to the cleaning and overhaul of coolers, valves and pipework.

Earlier, SeaCURE had also been typed approved by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Germany’s Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH).

Further, Evoqua will also apply for and go through trials needed for complete USCG type approval.
