Exelis to supply transportable air traffic management system to Sweden

Exelis has been awarded a contract to provide transportable ground control approach capabilities to support Sweden’s Deployable Airfield Unit (DAU).

Under $7.5m contract, Exelis will provide GCA-2000 solution to significantly enhance the situational awareness for DAU and the ability to quickly deploy and manage airspace operations.

The Exelis GCA-2000 solution will be the second transportable, solid-state, electronically scanned system for Sweden, with three radar functions including primary surveillance, precision approach, and secondary surveillance, in a single, standalone unit.

The GCA-2000 has been designed provide global compatibility for Sweden and NATO standardisation with systems operating at 11 other sites across Europe.

Exelis radar, reconnaissance and undersea systems business vice president and general manager Dave Prater said, "This award builds upon our 30-year partnership with Sweden and strengthens our position as the premier supplier of transportable air traffic management systems, a key component in critical transportation networks across Europe and throughout the world."

The GCA-2000 is capable of operating daily in environments ranging from the Arctic Circle and the deserts of Northern Africa, to the rainforests of Asia and South America.

Exelis develops air traffic control and 3-D air defence radars for tactical and naval applications and also supplies air traffic control radar systems for military.
