General Dynamics receives JEM Increment 2 contract from US SPAWAR

The US Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) has awarded Joint Effects Model (JEM) Increment 2 contract to General Dynamics Information Technology.

Under the contract, General Dynamics will develop software which will serve as the foundation for the JEM Increment 2 System as well as the software architecture for the JEM science and technology (S&T) prototype.

JEM is the US Department of Defense’s primary system for modelling the effects of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) material releases.

The cost plus fixed-fee award has options, if exercised, would bring the potential value of the contract to $23.5m over five years.
Work under the contract will be carried out in Rhode Island, New York and San Diego, US.

The JEM S&T prototype will offer rapid CBRN defence planning capabilities through easy-to-use web application interfaces to remotely deployed warfighters.

General Dynamics Information Technology Network and Mission Systems sector vice president and general manager Ed Hudson said, "We look forward to continuing our relationship with SPAWAR and expanding our presence in the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive weapons community."

General Dynamics will also serve as the integrator of JEM Increment 2 software and will provide programme and systems engineering management support.

The US Navy’s one of three major acquisition commands, SPAWAR provides the hardware and software to connect war fighters at sea, on land and in the air.

In addition to enhancing information dominance and awareness among Navy, Marine, joint forces, federal agencies and international allies, the organisation supports the full lifecycle of product and service delivery from the initial research and development, to acquisition and deployment, to operations and logistics support.
