Harris unveils XG-25P portable radio for mission-critical communications

Harris has introduced a XG-25P portable radio, a dependable lightweight portable radio for first responders and mission-critical radio users to perform interoperable communications.

For users operating between 700 and 800MHz frequencies, the XG-25P portable radio features software-defined architecture to support multiple mode operations including P25 Phase 1, P25 Phase 2, EDACS and OpenSky2 operations.

The over-sized speaker and AMBE+2 Vocoder of the new radio provides exceptional audio clarity and also features Bluetooth wireless connectivity and AES encryption.

Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications Product Management director Greg Henderson said, "The XG-25P is the latest addition to our XG series of portable solutions and is the best value P25 Phase 2 radio available in 700/800 MHz frequencies."

Built for demanding operating environments without sacrificing portability or usability, the XG-25P radio features rugged design to meet MIL-STD-810G standards for shock and vibration, dust, rain, solar radiation, low pressure and extreme temperature.

In addition to providing individual and emergency call capabilities, packet data, over-the-air-programming, and status messaging, the XG-25P radio supports traditional signalling protocols including GE Star and MDC1200 in analogue mode.

The radio is also compatible with the new P25 system configurations such as conventional and trunking systems configured for voting or linear simulcast.
