Implant Sciences’ QS-B220 detector completes certification readiness testing

The Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) has successfully completed the certification readiness and verification testing of Implant Sciences’ QS-B220 explosives and narcotics trace detector.

The testing also marks the detector’s foray into final independent testing, which will be conducted by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for qualification for air cargo screening.

Implant Sciences’ president and CEO Glenn Bolduc stated, "Entering into this final phase of approval gives us great confidence that our desktop B220 explosives trace detection system will be well positioned for adoption in the U.S. and global markets."

Results of the final stage of testing will be made known by 30 September 2012, while enabling the device to comply with the mandates of air cargo screening regulations, Bolduc added.

Introduced in May 2011, the Quantum Sniffer QS-B220 is a desktop explosives and narcotics trace detector integrated with a high-resolution colour touch-screen that provides audio and visual alarm indications, including substance identification.

Utilising non-radioactive Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) analysis technology, the QS-B220 can quickly detect and identify trace amounts of a range of military, commercial, and homemade explosives, including narcotic substances.

Designed with an automatic internal self-calibration, the detector eliminates issues such as licensing, inspection, transport, and end-of life, while providing freedom from radioactive materials, low total cost of ownership, and high operational availability.
