LAPD selects KDH Defense concealable body armour

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in the US, has awarded a contract to KDH Defense Systems’ (KDH) distribution partner, Galls, to provide KDH’s Level II and IIIA concealable body armour and polyethylene special threat plates for LAPD’s law enforcement officers.

KDH National Sales director Paul Larkin said that the contract follows department-wide solicitation by the LAPD for concealable ballistic armour and polyethylene special threat plates for use by the personnel to be worn while on patrol.

"LAPD’s criteria was extremely specific to performance against special threat ammunition testing and verification of areal density weight requirements," Larkin added.

KDH chief executive officer Dave Herbener said that the US law enforcement agency will use body armour to provide life-saving ballistic protection while enabling for officer comfort, mobility, functionality and operational performance.

The LAPD has issued a solicitation for body armour for the first time based on the new National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Standard-0101.06.

Prior to the multi-year contract award, the armour has undergone thirty-day ballistic testing and verification at NIJ approved ballistic laboratory.

The officer wear test was performed, which included both male and female officers, in Level II and Level IIIA armour.
