Morpho to deliver CTX 5800 EDS to US TSA

Morpho Detection, a unit of Morpho (Safran), has been awarded a contract to provide reduced-size CTX 5800 explosives detection system (EDS) for the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Under the five-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, which has a maximum value of $133m, Morpho will supply two stand-alone CTX 5800 EDS as well as ancillary equipment and other services as needed.

The US TSA is scheduled to receive the first of two CTX 5800 units in early 2014.

Morpho Detection president and CEO Karen Bomba said the company will supply TSA with their first order of the advanced CTX 5800 explosives detection system.

"By leveraging advanced imaging technologies in a smaller and lighter solution, CTX 5800 is delivering on Morpho’s commitment to help airports of all sizes realize the operational and security benefits of an automated checked baggage screening program," Bomba added.

The TSA-certified CTX 5800 represents the next generation in CT explosives detection system (EDS) technology.

Featuring advanced high-definition 3-D imaging (HD3-D) baggage screening and a compact footprint to fill a variety of security applications, the CTX 5800 has been approved by European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) as meeting European Union Standard 3 requirements.
