Mutualink introduces Google Glass for public safety

Mutualink will unveil the new Google Glass at the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) 2013 Annual Conference and Exposition, which is being held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, US.

The company will utilise its advanced interoperable communications platform to demonstrate Google Glass’s real-time multimedia interoperability.

Providing hands-free, real-time multimedia information sharing capability for first responders, the Google Glass can selectively and securely share two-way voice and video between command and control, partner agencies, and officers in the field.

Mutualink innovation vice president Dr. Michael Wengrovitz said, "We have leveraged our innovative interoperability platform and the Google Glass wearable hands-free device to create ground-breaking advances that enable anywhere, anytime communications and information sharing."

The Google Glass features audio and microphone, video camera and built-in heads-up display and enables user such as a police officer or fireman to share live streaming video with other personnel and monitoring points, and simultaneously communicate with other partner agencies.

Mutualink senior vice president Joe Mazzarella said the Google Glass capabilities can save lives in many crisis response situations.
"Though Google Glass is still in beta, we are quite enthusiastic to be at the cutting edge of technology, and taking a leading role with Google Glass and its novel implications from a societal benefit perspective," Mazzarella added.

First responders can receive and view documents, images and schematics in real time when Google Glass is combined with multimedia file sharing.

"We believe our approach is the key to enabling effective multi-agency cooperation and interoperability as well as allowing critical infrastructure partners to participate in a way that preserves legitimate privacy interests between private entities and government agencies," Mazzarella further added.
