Raytheon to bolster border security of Moldova

The US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) has awarded a contract to Raytheon to deliver border security offerings for the Republic of Moldova.

Mainly aimed at bolstering the border security of the region, the systems offered as part of the $12.9m contract would help prevent the explosion of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and associated materials across the borders of Moldova.

Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services Defense and Federal Solutions business director David Appel said: "Raytheon is now performing border security in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and in Southeast Asia, which helps DTRA make the world more secure.

"This win further validates our proven approach to designing and implementing effective border security solutions that support threat reduction with predictable cost, schedule and technical performance."

As part of the contract, Raytheon will also implement and test the real-time electro-optical/infrared surveillance (EO/IR) system along high priority border areas.

The deal also involves provision of training and sustainment and eventually transitioning all capabilities to the government of Moldova.

The latest eighteen-month base order comes with two several-month options and is awarded as part of the Cooperative Threat Reduction Integrating Contract II (CTRIC II).

The CTRIC II was awarded in April 2011, has an overall value of $950m and helps support the DTRA Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) programme.
