Sikorsky’s S-76D helicopter to receive Northrop LCR-100 AHRS system

Northrop Grumman is providing the LCR-100 attitude and heading reference system (AHRS) in support of the Sikorsky’s S-76D helicopter.

The helicopter had recently received Type Certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration.

The standard component of the Thales TopDeck avionics suite on the new medium-sized, twin-engine helicopter, LCR-100 has been designed to provide critical flight information regarding the aircraft’s position, heading and attitude.

Northrop also delivered both the LCR-92 and LCR-100 fibre-optic AHRS for the versions of the S-76 helicopter platform.

Northrop Grumman LITEF-built LCR-100 also provides precise outputs to the flight control system and has demonstrated high reliability and accuracy in the helicopter environment.

Northrop Grumman LITEF managing director Eckehardt Keip said, "The LCR-100 has proven its dependability and efficiency in serving rugged helicopter platforms, including previous versions of the S-76."

"We continue to offer lighter products with greater accuracy and performance," Keip added.

Powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210S engines with dual FADEC controls, the S-76D helicopter provides increased range as well as ability to launch into known icing conditions.

Designed for safety, reliability and efficiency, the S-76D helicopter also features are all-composite, flaw-tolerant main rotor blades; an advanced Thales integrated avionics system and autopilot and health and usage monitoring system, active vibration control.
