Smiths Detection, Optosecurity to develop advanced Checkpoint Enterprise software

Smiths Detection and Canada-based Optosecurity have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop and distribute an advanced Checkpoint Enterprise software solution.

Under the terms of the MOU, Smiths Detection and Optosecurity will begin further negotiations for reaching a formal agreement on the solution, which enhances the performance and cuts operational costs of security checkpoints.

Smiths Detection products vice president Rod Wilson said, "The agreement will eventually leverage our global base of checkpoint products including X-rays, trace detectors, full body screening devices, and bottle screeners for liquid explosives with Optosecurity’s advanced technology solutions, software development, and rapid implementation capabilities."

Last year, the Smiths Detection signed a deal with Optosecurity to use the company’s screening device in its X-ray baggage scanners, making them compatible with EU liquid explosive detection standards.

Under the agreement, Smith Detection will incorporate Optosecurity’s OptoScreener in its HI-SCAN 6040i, 6046si and 7555i X-ray baggage scanners, to meet EU-certified type C-standard of liquid explosives detection systems (LEDS).

Installation of the screening devices will help the scanners meet this level of performance without requiring replacement or upgrading of the existing equipment and hardware.

OptoScreener, which is the size of a desktop computer, can be incorporated as an upgrade to currently operational 6040i, 6046si and 7555i baggage screening systems or as an option for ordered systems.
