Sweden to procure communication radios from SELEX

CELAB Communications has selected SELEX Elsag to supply communication systems to meet the battlefield needs of the Swedish Home Guard in support of Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV).

Under the contract, SELEX Elsag will supply 8,700 enhanced encrypted personal role radio (EZPRR) man-worn communication systems as well as around 50 vehicle systems by September 2013.

The EZPRR system has been designed to provide voice and data transmission capability between Group/Squad leaders, platoon commanders and platoon vehicles such as tracked, wheeled and boats, as well as for internal group/squad communications.

Using advanced 2.4GHz spread spectrum technology, the EZPRR will provide all informed communications to front line soldiers to increase combat effectiveness, while meeting soldier needs.

Comfortable to wear, the EZPRR system features simple human-machine interface and is rugged to sustain and operate in hostile environments.

The system features unique wireless press-to-talk (PTT) capability to enable the user to operate the radio without the use of hands, while the interchangeable switch pack enables configuration to different roles.

The PRR body can be integrated with either single PTT switch pack or dual PTT Switch pack.

The single PTT switch pack can be used by a single user with EZPRR, whereas dual PTT switch pack enables commander to connect to the EZPRR and Combat Net Radio (CNR).

With the dual PTT switch pack, second radio interfaces can be used for MBITR, Harris, SINCGARS, PR4G, Bowman, TETRA, ICOM, Motorola and other professional radios.
