US DHS awards automated external defibrillator training contract to Emergency University

Emergency University has been awarded a contract by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Investigations and the Army Reserve 81st Regional Support Command (RSC) to offer training on for CPR/AED (automated external defibrillator) training.

Under the contract, company will offer nationwide CPR/AED/First Aid training to US DHS and the Army Reserve 81st RSC deal involves provision of CPR/AED training and management of about 300 AEDs deployed at more than 200 sites.

Emergency University CEO Doron Braun said: "When an organisation looks to implement a PAD or AED programme, they are often told that the program consists of standard training, data tracking of AED expiration dates and email reminders.

"Fortunately, Emergency University focuses on the intended goal – preparing people to respond to save lives.

"Dozens of national corporations and government agencies have caught on to this priority shift.

"The purchasing decision is more about the effectiveness of the response programme and the people trained to act.

The latest contract awards come in the midst of several government agencies and corporations realising the importance of AED/PAD programme management, which is much more than getting certification cards and installing AEDs.

Despite 40 to 50 million individuals attaining CPR/AED certification every year, reports reveal that real-life victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) obtain an effective response only for 2% of the time.
