US DHS deploys eClinicalWorks’ EHR system

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has deployed a new cloud-based electronic health records (EHR) system from eClinicalWorks for about 200,000 patients at 23 detention facilities across the country managed by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The new system will be deployed by 1,000 medical professionals from the ICE Health Service Corps at facilities that offer longer-term primary care to patients.

The new cloud-based offering enables the DHS to create a complete longitudinal record and share data between facilities, while can also be integrated with its existing systems such as laboratory, radiology and pharmacy to get additional benefits.

US ICE Health Service Corps Operations deputy assistant director captain Deanna Gephart said: "ICE has a frequent need to send medical information across different locations, which is cumbersome when each site has its own system.

"The Department has standardised on an EHR system that allows it to seamlessly share information. eClinicalWorks has been working with ICE to rapidly deploy this solution with features that are unique to this organisation, demonstrating our commitment as a partner with comprehensive technology."

The system forms part of Harris’ offering to offer integrated medical records, patient tracking and shared data across the ICE Health Service Corps.

In addition to enabling ICE to streamline processes and support enhanced patient care in its facilities, the new system also allows providers to make use of chronic and preventative care measures.

In collaboration with Harris and ICE, eClinicalWorks is developing further functionalities and integration with its existing laboratory, radiology and pharmacy systems.
