Flir wins US Coast Guard and Navy patrol boats support contract

Flir Systems has received a contract from the US Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, to provide support for the patrol boat electro- optics system (PB-EOS) programme for the US Coast Guard and US Navy.

Under the $49.9m indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract, Flir will deliver a variant of SeaFLIR 280-HD maritime electro-optical/infrared imaging system.

The SeaFLIR 280-HD imaging system has been designed to provide critical capability for the users to enhance navigation, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.

FLIR president and CEO Andy Teich said that the company will support the US Navy and Coast Guard while further strengthening the maritime EO/IR market.

"Winning this contract proves the benefits of our commercially developed, military qualified model to our customers, which includes rapid mission-critical solution development, high product quality, superior customer service, and rapid delivery at a price that yields exceptional value," Teich added.

Capable of providing long range performance in the extreme conditions found at sea, the system features lightweight turret, SWIR camera to see through sea mist, smog, smoke and haze as well as Real HD thermal and colour to provide extra resolution to enhance mission effectiveness.

Scheduled to be completed by September 2018, work under the contract will be carried out at the company’s facility in Billerica, Massachusetts, US.
