GE to provide MAGIC1 display computer for AgustaWestland

AgustaWestland has awarded a contract to GE Intelligent Platforms to provide MAGIC1 rugged display computer.

Under the contract, GE will supply MAGIC1 to support AgustaWestland’s Obstacle Proximity LIDAR system (OPLS) which will be integrated on helicopters destined for search and rescue (SAR) deployment.

GE Intelligent Platforms product manager Simon Collins said that the MAGIC1 is a pre-configured solution capable of being easily integrated onboard a helicopter with minimal integration effort and cost.

"The MAGIC1’s high performance enables it to allow pilots to make timely, accurate flight path decisions, while its compactness and low weight mean that it has minimal impact on the helicopter’s operating characteristics," Collins added.

The 3U VPX MAGIC1 rugged display computer features Intel Core i7 CPU technology and NVIDIA’s EXK107 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) to deliver unprecedented levels of performance for rugged applications.

"It is also rugged, which means that it can withstand the rigors and harsh environment that are typical of search and rescue deployments."

GE’s MAGIC1 collects the data from OPLS, a set of laser sensors, and will be displayed in the cockpit.

Additionally, the MAGIC1 can be deployed as a display computer to support the industry’s most demanding video and image applications while using significant processing power available from General Purpose computing on Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU) computing.
