Guam MACC Builders wins hangar construction contract from AAFB

Guam MACC Builders has received a contract from the US Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Pacific for the design and construction of a high bay maintenance hangar at Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB).

Under the $45.4m multiple award firm-fixed-price contract, the company will build the hangar, which will be used to support forward operations and maintenance functions for the MQ-4C Triton Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) unmanned aircraft system (UAS) platform.

Joint Region Marianas commander rear admiral Tilghman Payne said, "The addition of maintenance and hangar facilities at Andersen Air Force Base for the Navy’s MQ-4C Triton Unmanned Aircraft System further demonstrates the investment being made by the Dept. of Defense to increase our capability in the Marianas as we rebalance to the Pacific."

Powered by a Rolls-Royce AE3007H turbofan engine, the high-altitude, long-endurance UAS can cruise at a maximum speed of 357mph and provides constant surveillance for the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Force (MPRF) to carry out littoral missions.

In addition, the UAS supports missions including battle damage assessment, maritime interdiction, anti-surface warfare, battle-space management and targeting missions for the navy.

The contract scope also includes interior and enclosed maintenance space to accomplish scheduled inspections, airframe repairs, pre-and post-flight operations, as well as technical order compliance and aircraft modifications.

Scheduled to be completed by April 2016, work under the contract will be conducted on AAFB.
