Implant Sciences to deliver 16 ETDs to Austria

Implant Sciences has been awarded a contract to supply 16 QS-B220 Desktop Explosives Trace Detectors (ETD), for deployment at airports in Austria.

The follow-on order comes after the country deployed 22 of Implant Sciences’ QS-B220s for passenger and baggage checkpoint screening at the airports.

Implant Sciences CEO Dr Bill McGann said: "Implant Sciences has experienced noteworthy success in the European market since the spring of 2015, leading to the most positive year in the company’s history as manufacturer of explosives trace detectors.

"We are moving towards 2016 with a backlog of over $40m, comprised of our ECAC and TSA orders. We have carefully planned for this rapid growth and scaled our production capability to allow us to meet the increased demand for our products."

Incorporating the company’s patented non-radioactive ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) analysis technology, the QS-B220 systems perform real-time detection and identification of trace amounts of different military, commercial and homemade explosives, as well as illicit drugs.

The trace detection systems feature a radioactive material-free design, easy-to-use touchscreen user interface, push-button maintenance and diagnostics and a patented inCal internal automatic calibration system, which prevents errors that could result from an uncalibrated instrument.

With significantly lower maintenance requirements than its competing systems, the QS-B220 can be deployed for a much lower total cost of ownership than other approved products.

The solution meets the European Civil Aviation Conference’s (ECAC) standards for aviation screening of passengers and baggage.

The new solution is expected to minimise maintenance requirements while reducing the operational costs.
