Indian Coast Guard commissions eighth inshore patrol vessel

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has commissioned eighth Inshore Patrol Vessels (IPV), Rajdhwaj, at Chennai, India.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers-built Rajdhwaj IPV is 50m-long, has a maximum speed of 31.5k and an endurance of 1500nm at economical speed of 14k.

Manned by 05 officers and 30 men under the Command of Commandant (JG) VK Parmar, ICGS Rajdhwaj will be based at Kakinada under the administrative & operational control of the Commander, Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 6, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The IPV can carry one rigid inflatable boat and two Geminis for search and rescue, law enforcement and maritime patrol.

Fitted with most advanced and sophisticated navigational and communication sensors and equipment, the IPV is powered by three MTU 4000 series Diesel engines of 2720 KW capacity at 2100 rpm each, coupled with three 71S2 Rolls Royce Kamewa Jets.

In addition to integrated bridge system (IBS), the ship is equipped with an integrated machinery control system (IMCS), and an indigenously-built 30mm gun mount with fire control system.

The ship will enhance ICG’s capability in furthering its mandate of maritime safety & security, environmental protection and coastal security on the Eastern sea board.
