Indian Coast Guard receives fourth FPV

The Indian Coast Guard has taken delivery of the fourth fast patrol vessel (FPV), ICGS Abhiraj, from Cochin Shipyard (CSL).

Scheduled to be operated by the Coast Guard station at Tuticorin, the vessel will be used to conduct missions such as supporting the Indian Coast Guard in its anti-smuggling, anti-piracy operations, fisheries protection and monitoring.

Cochin Shipyard is under contract to build 20 FPV for the Indian Coast Guard.

Designed for coastal security operations, Abhiraj is powered by three main engines, each having 2720KW capacity, and is propelled by water jets.

The vessels have a secondary role of providing communication link and escort convoys during hostilities and war time.

In addition to the 20 FPVs, CSL is also constructing the warships of the country, the indigenous aircraft carrier and two offshore support vessels for the international owners.

Fitted with integrated bridge management system (IBMS), the ship also features an integrated machinery control system (IMCS) and an integrated gun mount with indigenous fire control system (FCS).
