Logos gets FAA nod to test UAS in New York

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has given green light to Logos Technologies to commence the flight-testing of the unmanned Tactically Expandable Maritime Platform (TEMP) unmanned aerial system (UAS) in domestic airspace.

The FAA’s certificate of authorisation (COA) makes TEMP the first UAS to be completely assessed outdoor from Griffiss.

The new drone will be tested at the Northeast UAS Airspace Integration Research Alliance (NUAIR) FAA UAS test site located at the Oneida County Griffiss International Airport in New York from October.

Logos Technologies president Dr. John Marion said: "This is an important step for Logos Technologies in its development of powered parafoil platforms for both military and commercial applications."

Built in collaboration with Atair Aerospace, the autonomous-flight-capable parafoil TEMP aircraft can be deployed for a range of missions such as precision cargo-delivery to remote and unreachable areas to help with emergency response and other circumstances.

Located on the site of the earlier Griffiss Air Force Base, the NUAIR FAA UAS test site also includes the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate (Rome Lab).

Logos believes that working together with Rome Lab would highly enhance the speed and efficiency in maturing the US for deployment in military and commercial use.
