London Police’s front line officers to pilot AXON body-worn cameras

TASER International’s EVIDENCE.com has been awarded a contract by the London Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) to deliver additional 500 AXON cameras as part of the ongoing pilot, which is headed by the Mayor’s Office of Policing and Crime (MOPAC).

As part of the latest programme, which is mainly aimed at expanding the agency’s 18-month programme, MOPAC and the College of Policing will consider several outcomes including criminal justice results; complaints against police; use of force by police; amount of time saved in administration tasks and the effect on public confidence through the use of body-worn cameras.

This pilot programme is claimed to be the largest of its kind in the world with 1,000 units deployed.

Some of the 500 additional cameras will be set up onto firearms officers, including those belonging to the Trojan Proactive Unit.

The evidence gathered from the deployed cameras will be stored and managed through the EVIDENCE.com platform.
