Rapiscan bags US order to maintain and support inspection systems

Rapiscan Systems has been awarded a contract by an undisclosed US government agency to offer service and maintenance support for its deployed inspection systems.

Under the $12m contract, the company will continue to perform on-going maintenance and support services on several Rapiscan inspection platforms including the Eagle M60 mobile high energy X-ray cargo and vehicle inspection system.

The deal also involves offering maintenance and support services to Rapiscan’s 620 Dual View (DV) baggage and parcel inspection system.

Claimed to be capable of inspecting dense cargo at any place and time, the 6MV Eagle integrates an A 6 MV X-ray imaging system, which easily pierces dense and densely-packed cargo, without requiring any manual inspections.

The M60 system is also capable of scanning objects up to 5m tall, while can also integrate largest inspection tunnel of all Eagle scanners.

Its material separation option enables detection of low density contraband, including explosives and narcotics, which appear separated in the X-ray image from high density materials, including steel.

Mainly aimed at aviation and high security applications, the Rapiscan 620DV baggage and parcel inspection system is an advanced checkpoint screening technology integrating dual view technology to generate a horizontal and vertical view of the object under inspection.

The 2,880mm long inspection system is claimed to offer enhanced image quality.
