SAIC to provide FirstNet planning support services in California

Science Applications International (SAIC) has secured a prime contract from the State of California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to provide FirstNet planning support services.

Under the single award firm fixed price/time and materials contract, SAIC will provide planning and outreach support services which includes public safety broadband outreach and education planning, engagement and coordination of stakeholders.

The company will also conduct presentations, town halls, and webinars that advise the Office of Emergency Services on FirstNet legislation.

The contract has a two-year base period of performance, one 12-month option and has a cumulative value of approximately $440,000, if all options are exercised.

Work under the contract will be carried out throughout California, US.

SAIC Emerging Markets Customer Group senior vice president and general manager Robert Genter said that the company provides support to select states and agencies in the initial phase.

"SAIC is uniquely positioned to support the planning and eventual build of FirstNet given the companies deep history and expertise in the various technologies, networking and integration," Genter added.

"California is an important customer as their success is essential to the national success of this critical infrastructure."

SAIC said FirstNet will be the first high-speed wireless, broadband data network dedicated to public safety and will be a single, nationwide network that facilitates communication for public safety users during emergencies.
