Smiths Detection to deliver RadSeeker detector for CBSA

Smiths Detection has been awarded a contract by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) to deliver a next-generation, portable radiation detector and identifier, RadSeeker.

Under the contract, the company will deliver RadSeeker to CBSA for installation at key points of entry to combat radiological, nuclear threats.

Canada will deploy the hand-held device to enhance security and screening measures at Montreal, Vancouver, and Halifax.

Designed to provide superior capability, RadSeeker features advanced software to enable users to distinguish radiological and nuclear threats from naturally occurring radiation or other legitimate radiological materials.

Smiths Detection Americas Sales vice president Lance Roncalli said that the RadSeeker will help Canada to protect citizens from nuclear and radiological threats while maintaining a free flow of trade.

"Its technological advantages, exceptional reliability and Smiths Detection’s globally-recognised service and training, make it a cost-efficient way to detect radiation threats at Canada’s borders," Roncalli added.

The highly accurate radioisotope detector has also been deployed by other governments for various applications such as customs inspection, border protection, emergency response, and radiological facilities/personnel monitoring.

Designed to meet/exceed all ANSI N42.34 (2006) requirements, the solution was developed with support from the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO), a jointly staffed agency within the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
