US Army awards LT2-IRS contract option to Saab

Saab Defense and Security USA has been awarded a contract for delivery of additional radio communication network systems to the US Army for deployment during live training exercises.
 
The SEK135m ($20.3m) contract comprises additional options of the $41m live training transformation interim range system (LT2-IRS) contract awarded by the US Army Program Executive Office of Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) in April 2011.
 
Saab Defense and Security USA president Lars Borgwing said the additional order marks a further confirmation of the company’s strong position as a long-term training partner to the US Armed Forces.
 
”Under LT2-IRS, Saab is providing a proven and future-proof data communication system that ties together the U.S. Army’s existing instrumented training assets into an integrated end-to-end Homestation solution,” Borgwing added.
 
Along with options, the LT2-IRS contract will see Saab fielding communication network systems with over 11,000 radios to enable warfighters to engage in instrumented force on force training at the army home stations.
 
Equipped with a generator, 80ft antenna mask and a custom aluminium brackets and components, the system can be installed with a multiple integrated laser engagement system (MILES) to replicate combat conditions.
 
Development and production work under the contract is scheduled to be carried out in Sweden and the US, while number of units ordered and delivery schedule remain undisclosed.
