USCG orders Carmanah M800 Series solar marine lanterns

The US Coast Guard (USCG) has awarded a multi-year contract to Carmanah Technologies to deliver marine aids-to-navigation.

As part of the deal, the USCG selected the company’s M800 Series marine lantern from its range of Small and Large Self Contained LED Lantern categories.

The overall $3.4m contract runs up to five years if all options are exercised.

Carmanah Technologies CEO John Simmons said: "This is an important award for Carmanah as it affirms that our new line of solar self-contained marine lanterns meets the stringent standards set by the US Coast Guard.

"In the last year-and-a-half these lanterns have been adopted in Canada, Latin America, Europe and into Southeast Asia.

"We expect this latest award to positively influence even more marine authorities around the world to consider the use of Carmanah lanterns in their aids-to-navigation systems."

Launched in the spring of 2013, the new M800 Series marine lanterns are integrated with the Carmanah’s early product features with strong composite material structure, improved high-efficiency optical design and the latest user-friendly programming options.

Carmanah has been delivering marine lights to the USCG since 2002.

"Later this year, in conjunction with our partner Sabik Oy, we will add more industry-leading functionality by pairing the M800’s optional satellite connectivity with a new cloud-based monitoring software.

Simmons said: "The Lightguard Monitor suite will provide marine authorities the ability to reliably monitor the status and location of their navigation aids for greater safety and with lower maintenance costs."
