USCG to renew Aura’s service support for VIPER deployed on patrol vessels

The US Coast Guard is planning to renew Aura Systems’ contract for the provision of service and support for the VIPER systems deployed on the coast guard patrol boats.

Currently under production, the USCG’s 45ft RB-M response boats feature dual AuraGen/VIPER systems, to offer both alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) power from engine idle to redline.

The vessel is deployed for Coast Guard mission requirements including search and rescue; ports, waterways, and coastal security; drug interdiction; and migrant interdiction.

Aura CEO Melvin Gagerman said: "We have now shipped hundreds of VIPER systems to the U.S. Coast Guard under the previously announced program and we are starting to get interest in marine applications of the VIPER mobile power solution from other countries."

Aura’s VIPER mobile power solution has also been installed on vessels deployed by the US Navy, UK Royal Navy and the Singapore Navy.

Recently, the UK Royal Navy’s multi-role hydrographic survey vessel HMS Echo involved in the search for Malaysia Airline Flight 370 has with it the survey boat SMB Sapphire in addition to two AuraGen VIPER systems.

The UK Royal Navy’s Type 45, Daring-class anti-air warfare destroyer, HMS Defender, has successfully completed Sea Viper weapon system firing for the first time.
